The Code of Judicial Conduct for the State of Florida sets forth ethical guidelines and principles for the conduct of judges and judicial candidates in Florida. It consists of seven canons: Canon 1: "A Judge Shall Uphold the Integrity and Independence of the Judiciary".

Within each circuit, the number of judges is determined by population and caseload. Circuit judges must be an elector of a county within the circuit and must have been admitted to The Florida Bar for the preceding five years. Circuit Court judges serve six-year terms and are elected by voters of the circuits in nonpartisan, contested elections.
